PREREQUISITES
Some courses require that the student must take a course previous to enrolling in the class. For example: A student must take and receive a passing letter grade in Career 1 and Career 2 before the student can take Career 3 and Career 4.
DROPPING CLASSES
All students are expected to take the classes they are registered for. There is a grace period of five days. Within these five days, students can meet with the school counselor to change their schedule. After the 5 grace days, if a student still chooses to change their schedule, a grade of NC will be given unless administrative permission is given. The principle reserves the right to modify any class sizes.
FULL-TIME and PART-TIME
All 9th-11th grade students must be enrolled full-time. Only seniors have the opportunity to enroll at PSA as a part-time student. To be considered as a part-time student, students must meet with the school counselor to determine eligibility.
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY (NHS)
The mission of the Prairie Seeds Academy Chapter of the National Honor Society (Prairie Seeds Academy NHS) is to promote scholarship, service, leadership and character. Prairie Seeds Academy NHS includes both senior and junior students who have distinguished themselves in high school. Prairie Seeds Academy chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service. Prairie Seeds Academy NHS asks students to volunteer for activities designed to aid our school and our community. Members must have and maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.25 and must record at least 20 hours of service within the community.
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB)
Prairie Seeds Academy (2010-2011) is an IB candidate school, offering a school-wide International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, grades 6 through 10. The Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students aged 11 to 16 help students develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to participate actively and responsibly in a changing and increasingly interrelated world. POST-SECONDARY ENROLLMENT OPTIONS (PSEO) Juniors and seniors have the chance to take college level classes at PSEO participating colleges in MN. Juniors must be in the top one-third of their graduating class and seniors must be in the top-half of their graduating class. Students must meet with the counselor for a graduation check.
NATIONAL COLLEGIATE ATHELTIC ASSOCIATION (NCAA)
Our CEEB code is: 240-321. A list of our courses can be found on the website: http://www.eligibilitycenter.org.
COLLEGE IN SCHOOLS (CIS)
This program allows seniors to take an equivalent introductory college level course from the University of Minnesota through PSA from a high school teacher who has been approved to teach the course. Seniors successfully completing the course will receive both college and high school credit for those classes. Seniors must be in the top 25% of their class and obtain approval from the instructor. Students should meet with their counselor for more information. CIS courses will be offered in the English department starting 2011-2012.
SHADOWING STUDENTS
PSA defines the Shadowing Student (SS) as a visitor of secondary age that wants to experience and attend PSA for one day in considering PSA as a potential educational institution of enrollment. SS must obtain an application from the guidance and counseling department. SS must fill out the application completely including the home district verification. SS then needs to return the application to the guidance and counseling department for review. After the review, the guidance and counseling department will call home and invite the SS to visit PSA. Students cannot shadow another PSA student without the application and without parent permission.
